A 45-year-old man, Osita Ezuruike, committed suicide in his house at Umudafa, Awo Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on Tuesday.
Sources say the deceased expressed frustration with life over the COVID-19 lockdown declared by the state government.
Brtshadow.com learnt that the deceased’s neighbors alerted the police after discovering that he had hung himself. Police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, in his reaction said an investigation into the incident had commenced.
“On April 27, acting on a report, operatives of the Divisional Police headquarters in Mbieri moved to Umudafa, Awo Mbieri, Mbaitoli LGA, in a house belonging to one Osita Ezuruike, 45, and met the lifeless body of the said Osita hanging,” the Police spokesman said.
“The reason for taking his own life could not be ascertained. “However, the corpse has been removed to the morgue, while an investigation into the incident has commenced.” Imo currently has oneconfirmed case of COVID-19. Nigeria currently has 1337 cases, 40 deaths while 255 have been discharged. Worldwide, the number of confirmed infections stood at more than 3 million people, with some 928,995 recoveries. More than 212,000 people have died, according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins University.
