POLICE in Lagos on Wednesday arrested an inspector and two other persons in his vehicle for violating the stay-at-home order by President Muhammadu Buhari as a measure to check spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The police command said the officer, who was not on duty, was going about his private business in outright disregard of the movement restriction.
The police also refuted allegations by the Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) that medical workers and support staff were being harassed or restricted by policemen enforcing the lockdown order.
Spokesman Bala Elkana said Police Commissioner Hakeem Odumosu personally monitored compliance with the restriction, reiterating that food dealers, communication operators, media personnel, health workers and private security companies were exempt, provided they are on duty.
“For information or complaints regarding non compliance, call the following numbers 09010512285, 09010512286, 09010512287 and 09010512288,” he said.
