Teenager sets girlfriend ablaze over ‘cheating’

An 18-year-old suspected on-line fraudster, Victor Oji, who allegedly set his girlfriend ablaze in Iba City in Ojo Lagos, was remanded on Tuesday by an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Courtroom.

The Justice of the Peace, Mrs A. Kusanu, didn’t take {the teenager}’s plea, however ordered that he must be saved on the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Lagos, pending recommendation from the state director of public prosecutions. Kusanu adjourned the case till Feb. 19.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Jimah Iseghede, instructed the courtroom that the defendant dedicated the homicide on Dec. 7, 2019, at 10.00a.m. at No. G549, Military Publish Service Property, Iba City. He stated that the defendant set ablaze his girlfriend – Tolani Mariam, 24 – as a result of he suspected she was dishonest on him.

In accordance with the prosecutor, the deceased instructed the defendant that she was going to go to her sister who was put to mattress, including that she returned to the boyfriend some days later. Iseghede stated that the defendant later noticed within the girlfriend’s telephone, a video of her in a resort taking laborious medicine.

This, he stated, triggered his motion. The prosecutor famous that homicide contravened Part 223 of the Felony Legislation of Lagos State, 2015, and carried dying penalty.
